Kilka bliżej niezidentyfikowanych obiektów „spadło” w piątkową noc z 27 na 28 kwietnia 2012 roku na teren wsi Wargowo na południe od Obornik. Dwa małe obiekty znaleziono na posesji należącej do sołtysa Wargowa. Niewielkie przedmioty przypominają meteoryty. Ich dokładnym zbadaniem zajęli się specjaliści z Uniwersytetu Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu. Wyniki badań wskazują na ziemskie pochodzenie fragmentów (Nowak et al. 2012):
(…) The studied piece is rather rounded, with a predominantly gray color, metallic luster and a weight of about 18 g. The sample is characterized by high porosity and a thin rust layer on the whole surface. Three different chemical phases were recognized.
(…) Based on preliminary observations, we conclude that the studied object is not natural. This is supported by the high porosity of sample, the rust presence and no typical melting crust. Such a conclusion is also supported by chemical analysis of the distinguished phases, especially the presence of such elements as platinum. On this basis, the sample studied is classified as a meteorwrong and the name “Oborniki meteorite” should be still reserved for the two samples lost during World War II.
Sprawę należy traktować, jako nie do końca nierozstrzygniętą, gdyż według referatu wygłoszonego podczas konferencji Meteoroids 2013 (Nowak et al. 2013):
(…) Conclusions
The study sample is a part of space debris and its chemical composition and structure is the result of melting and rapid cooling during passing through the Earth's atmosphere.
