Johann Gottfried Galle (1812-1910) – niemiecki astronom. Sławę zdobył w 1838 odkrywając wewnętrzny, ciemny pierścień Saturna. 23 września 1846 roku odkrył, na podstawie obliczeń Adamsa i Le Verriera, planetę Neptun.[1] W latach 1851-1897 pracował jako profesor Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego i dyrektor jego obserwatorium astronomicznego. Jako pierwszy dokonał obliczeń orbity meteoroidu z którego spadł meteorytu Pułtusk. Wynikało z nich, że meteoroid przed wejściem w ziemską atmosferę poruszał się po orbicie hiperbolicznej (mimośród e>1,0), czyli przybył spoza Układu Słonecznego. Dziś wiemy, że jego obliczenia były błędne.
