W połowie XIX wieku w okolicy wsi Stará Bělá (Alt-Bělá) na Morawach rolnik podczas orki wyorał pojedynczą bryłę żelaza o masie 3,9 kg. Nie wiedząc co z nią zrobić zabrał ją do domu, gdzie przeleżała zapomniana wiele lat. Dopiero w 1898 roku pokazano znalezisko profesorowi pobliskiego gimnazjum w Ostrawie Franzowi Smyčkovi, który rozpoznał w nim meteoryt żelazny (Tuček 1981).
Jest to meteoryt bardzo rzadkiego typu IID. Takiego samego typu są dwa inne czeskie meteoryty Elbogen i Vicenice, których miejsca spadku/znalezienia leżą od miejsca znalezienia okazu Alt Bela odpowiednio: 398 i 166 km!
